Mononucleosis: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

There are several names for the diseases of mononucleosis. They are known to people as kissing diseases or glandular fever. This is a disease which is caused by EBV (Epstein-Barr virus). The many symptoms of the EBV are fever, tiredness, Soynut butter sore throat and malaise. The name of mononucleosis is given for the reactions in the body in which a single type of white blood cell increases in the body and dominates the number of other components in the blood. This results in EBV infection and its symptoms.

The EBV is found in people all around the world and children are detected with the infection in their blood in the teenage. The immune system of the body helps in producing antibodies which attack and prevent the viruses from spreading the infections further.

As seen in most of the cases, there is no particular treatment for the symptoms of mononucleosis. The disease is fought by the own body mainly because the illness is not prolonged. The antibodies produced in the immune system are sufficient to cure the symptoms. There are no treatments for the actual diseases except for the symptoms. Most generally, antiviral drugs are prescribed by the doctor but if the symptoms persist after the consumption of these antiviral then it is recommended that you stop taking them at once. If the symptoms are related to the throat, then a penicillin injection is given to the patient. There are a few medications which have side effects on the body, usually in the form of rashes. Thus, make sure that the medicines are prescribed by a good doctor. A family doctor is preferred as he would know the type of body allergies that the child has and prescribe medicines accordingly.

Most of the time, all that is required for the patient is a few comforting measures taken in time. A small dosage of medicine can be given to symptoms of fever and headache and even body aches. One thing that you should know is that rest and good amount of sleep is required by the patient which will prevent fatigue.
